Cold Weather Home Tips, Grand Homes, New Homes Dallas

Although we can’t change the extreme weather outside in Dallas/ Ft. Worth – you can take some precautions to minimize the threats to your new home. The following is a list of safety measures Grand Homes suggests homeowners do to help prevent damage to your home in extremely cold weather.

Locate your water main valve – In the event of a leak or ruptured pipe, you may need to shut off the entire water supply to your home.

On your outside water faucet, make sure to disconnect the hose from the bib.

Open cabinet doors – Opening the doors of cabinets in your new home allows heat from the home to warm your pipes and help prevent pipes from freezing.

Turn sprinkler system off – Make sure to turn the sprinkler system off in the garage as well as the main shut off valve(s).

Set thermostat – if you are going to be on vacation or out of town during freezing temperatures, make sure not to turn the heater off, leave it on at a low amount to keep pipes from freezing.

If you have a problem in your Grand Home and need a plumber’s assistance, please refer to the emergency sticker placed under your kitchen sink.
