America's Best Builder, Back to School, Grand Homes, Organization

Kids are back in school, and the days of no homework, projects or book reports are gone. With a nice break for even a couple of months, getting back into a routine and staying organized can seem over-whelming and chaotic.  How will you balance assignments, extra-curricular activities and meals, and maintain your sanity?  Grand Homes has responded to the challenge.  Our homes are designed to help you and your family stay organized, so we wanted to share some of our most functional spaces, and give tips to help you manage your home effectively.

This space in the Grand Homes model in Parker is conveniently located in the kitchen and can serve as a functional space for mom and kids alike.  It is well lit, has a large work surface, and has lots of storage – perfect for homework, projects and day-to-day organizing.  The kitchen is the heart of the home, and this desk area allows for kids or mom to get work done while still being accessible if needed.

Home management centers like this are great places to post all calendars of school activities, assignment due dates, sports games, meetings, vacations, and lunch menus.  Everyone can update and check schedules easily, and it helps you stay on top of things and start establishing a routine.

Upstairs kid’s computer lofts are becoming more and more popular, and many Grand Homes have added this feature. This is a great alternative to the kitchen because it is quieter space for your kids to do their homework without being locked in their bedrooms, and it works great if they are working on an assignment with a friend or classmate.

And, don’t forget about the more traditional option of a home office or study. These are generally used as adult spaces, but can still be beneficial to a child studying for a test or doing research. They are a private and quiet environment great for staying focused, just be sure to check in to make sure actual work is going on. :)

Other home management center ideas include a cozy nook under the stairs, or perhaps a large closet with shelving that you have been able to convert into a cute desk area with lots of storage.  Instead of dreading the added clutter this time of year brings, enjoy it by making the perfect space for your kids to do homework and stay organized in your home!
