One thing I LOVE about DFW is that there is always something to do. Concerts, art shows, festivals, film screenings, sporting events, the list goes on. Whatever your interests are there is sure to be something going on that will appeal to you. Take this weekend for example, there are four huge events happening throughout the metroplex and they’re all so different! There’s something for everyone to enjoy in DFW.
South: Dallas Comic Con
Coo coo for Comics? Dallas Comic Con will run from May 16 – 18 at the Dallas Convention Center in gorgeous downtown. Big names who will be on hand for autographs include Alice Cooper, Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger), William Shatner, Stan Lee and Christopher Lloyd among others. Take part in the cosplay red carpet, shop at over 600 vendor booths or participate in various workshops and seminars. Even sitting on a bench for the day will be entertaining as there are sure to be hundreds of cosplayers walking around dressed as their favorite characters.
Central: Fork and Cork
One of Addison’s big events is happening this weekend in Addison Circle. Hobnob with fellow foodies at this huge sampling event. Over 30 local restaurants will be represented and attendees will have the option to sample import and craft beers, wine and spirits in the Grand Tasting Area. But it’s not all about food and drink: there will be entertainment too! Pat Green is headlining the event and will be preceded by local acts Telegraph Canyon, the Dallas String Quartet, The O’s and more. This is a strictly 21 and older event; however the Tasty Run 5K that coincides with the event is open to all ages.
West: Main Street Days
Craft beer is all the rage in DFW and that is this year’s theme at this event in Grapevine. The 30th Annual Main Street Days will feature six stages for live music, a carnival, vendors, children’s area and, of course, food will be on hand so bring the entire family for a day of fun. The best part? Admission is FREE if you arrive before 5 p.m today!
Far West: FW Music Festival
Lucinda Williams and Jimmy Eat World headline this two-day music festival in Fort Worth. In an attempt to change people’s perspective that Ft. Worth is a rustic, old west town the fest will feature twenty Indie Pop, Rock, Rhythm & Blues and Alternative Country bands. Acts who have played here in previous years include Lucero, Reverend Horton Heat, he Old 97’s and The Relatives. If you do plan to attend this festival and are looking to continue the party elsewhere (headliner’s sets will be over at 11 p.m.), we suggest heading to Sundance Square in downtown.
Up North: Wildflower Festival
Is the drive to Fort Worth too long? Bring the kids to the Wildflower festival in Richardson. This award-winning festival will host a Kidz Corner, marketplace, Taste of Texas Food Garden and more! Six stages will hold non-stop live music throughout the festival with headliners performing after 7 p.m. Le Freak will take the stage tonight, as will Vertical Horizon and Kool & the Gang. The Wallflowers, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Cheap Trick perform Saturday night and Jack Ingram and Lonestar close out the festival on Sunday.
Live here or planning to visit soon? Here are a few event calendars to check out when you’re looking for some fun!
