On our blog we talk a lot about the features in our houses that appeal mostly to women – gourmet kitchens, spa baths, design features – the list goes on. But, with Father’s Day being this Sunday, we thought we would take time to highlight some of the features in our homes that Dad would enjoy most. Because while Mom may pick the house, decorate it and run it, Dad deserves to enjoy it too. So here are a couple ways Dad can enjoy his day right at home.
1. The Man – Kitchen: The ultimate outdoor cooking station equipped with a propane grill and built-in drainable basin perfect for filling with ice to keep beverages cool. It is the perfect set-up for grilling up some steaks or BBQ while spending time with family and friends.
2. The Pool – Grilling out in June is recipe for getting really hot and the best (and most fun) way to take care of that is to enjoy a swim in your very own pool. Great for setting up a basketball or volleyball net, or just sitting on a floatie catching some rays.
3. The Media Room – This Sunday both the U.S. Open and game 3 of the NBA Finals will be on TV – a dream for any sports-loving dad. Invite some of your best dad or non-dad friends over for the ultimate viewing experience.
4. The Man Cave – Last, but certainly not least, the thing every man wants in their home: a man cave. The ideal set-up for playing some rounds of poker, watching the game and whatever else men do in a man cave.
We hope you were inspired by our breif run down of ways this Father’s Day can be enjoyed at home – especially a Grand Home! Be sure to do at least one thing on our list – Happy Father’s Day!

While many had no option but to get out, Mr. Brooks has accomplished 96 consecutive months of profitability. See the complete article here, or scroll below. (more…)
With the Super Bowl just around the corner we thought it was the perfect time to talk about one of the most fun features in our homes: the media room! The wide screen, comfortable seating, dimmer-switch lighting, and surround sound capabilities really create the true home theater experience. And, since most of our media rooms are adjacent to a game room or bar area it is the perfect set-up for entertaining during the big game. So lets take a look at some of our very cool media room designs:
Cumberland: This media room boasts a modern design, but still remains comforable and classic with a warm color palette and rich textures. There is plenty of room for everyone and the stadium style seating is the perfect way to ensure no one has a bad view.
Alexandria II: This circular seating arrangement is perfect for sports events because it allows you to enjoy everyone’s company while you watch them game. With everyone gathered around a centralized area it makes it easy to share appetizers and have conversation.
Westchester II: This spacious and airy media room with a more modular seating arrangement is also great for sports viewing. Everyone has their own space, and there are plenty of options to shift furniture to create more functional seating arrangements.
Grand Vendome: For a more loungy feel, this media room offers large leather seats with a bar for food and beverages just behind the room. The plush curtains also pull closed to black out the room for great movie watching.

We hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year! We are kicking this year off with a look at one of our gorgeous showcase homes in Garland, TX at the beautiful community of Emerald Lake Estates.
This spacious 6 bed/5 bath house comes equipped with features and amenities (which we’ll talk a bout in a minute) that would help any family feel comfortable and at home. But what makes this home great is the peaceful vistas of Lake Ray Hubbard right from the backyard! With a covered patio and an upstairs balcony off the game room families are able to enjoy the outside just as much as the inside. (more…)
With the holiday season being a time for families and friends to gather and enjoy one another’s company, we thought it was the perfect time to feature one of our most sought after living spaces: the gameroom. Gamerooms are versatile spaces perfect for entertaining both adults and kids. Whether your enjoying cocktails, playing a game of pool, or playing Monopoly your gameroom is a great setting for social occasions. So lets take a look at the most fun room in the house.
Hamptons: This large scale entertaining space is great for big gatherings. The space is very functional because it is broken up into designated zones for lounging, gaming, and drink preparation, but is still very integrated so everyone feels together.
Ellingsworth: This is a more quaint entertaining space adjacent to a media room. This room is great for many different uses because there is more freedom to decide how the space will serve your needs best.
Grand Ashford: This gameroom is ideal for lounging, enjoying a beverage and having conversation. It’s also perfect for playing board games with the kids with its circular seating design.
Sorrellwood: This is a classic gameroom setup with a bar, pool table and media area. You can enjoy the football game while you play a round of pool with your friends. This open concept makes it possible for everyone to enjoy everything at the same time.

We’re back again with a quick progress update on the Hope Home in Savannah, TX just to keep you guys posted on whats been going on. We’re also previewing a short video (featuring Grand Homes CEO Stephen Brooks) on the great work HOPE International is doing with builders and their trade partners by building locally to end poverty globally. So be sure to check that out at the bottom.
The last time we checked in the home was really coming together with the framing, siding, and roof completed (see more on that here). But now were getting to the really fun part: the brick! There is still a lot of work to be done, but doesn’t it look good so far? The men have done a great job to make sure the brick is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Other than landscaping and paving, this is one of the last processes done to the exterior to the house to get it ready for move in. So from here on out most of the updates will be on the interior of the house. That’s when all the fun details like flooring, lighting, fixtures, and appliances go in. So keep a look out for real estate listings and check our website regularly for details about purchasing this home, and being part of a great cause. The sooner this house becomes a home, the sooner we can help those who are truly in need. Here is the video that further explains how homes like these are making a difference:
In the November/December 2011 issue of Texas CEO Magazine, President and CEO of Grand Homes, Stephen Brooks, made the cover story with his interview on why and how he reinvented Grand Homes. From thriving as a young company experiencing rapid growth to facing downsizing and monetary cutbacks at the peak of a troubled housing market, the article takes you through the history of Grand Homes and why it was imperative for Stephen Brooks to make comprehensive changes if his company was going to remain competitive.
“Grand Homes found itslef in a place many businesses never recover from – low customer satisfaction ratings, dated products and an organization with no reason to change. ” But it did.
In the article Mr. Brooks shares some of what he has learned from being in the home building industry for almost 25 years, and talks about how he was motivated by another influential CEO, Gary Kelly of Southwest Airlines, to reanalyze his relationship with his most important asset, his customers.
Through hard work and even harder decisions Mr. Brooks was able to create a culture and a business model around customer satisfaction. “We redefined our business through our service performance.” And it didn’t come without reward. Grand Homes has experienced 94 consecutive quarters of profit, and was recognized as “Americas Best Builder” for 2011 by Builder Magazine.
