The Dallas Cowboys, Big Tex, and a perfect skyline. If you live in Dallas or have ever visited, these are just a few things you probably love about our city. Over the past few years we have seen the city we love expand north into the suburbs known as Frisco, Allen and Plano. Just a short drive up 75 or the Dallas North Tollway and you will be surrounded by plenty of shopping, dining, sports and leisure activities to fill your family’s free time.

Frisco, Plano and Allen all have great shopping and dining choices but they also have their individual attractions. Frisco is a sports lover’s dream! It is home to the Frisco Roughriders, Texas Legends, FC Dallas and the Dr Pepper Arena where the Dallas Stars hold team practice. Not to mention the Dallas Cowboys are moving into the neighborhood soon and will begin hosting practice in the city as well. The latest spot to hit Frisco is iFly indoor skydiving where you and the family can finally realize your dreams of flying without having to jump out of a plane!

Plano sits right on the other side of 121. JC Penney, Cinemark Theatres, Frito-Lay, Yum Foods (Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC) and Capital One are among plenty of other Fortune 500 companies who have decided to locate their headquarters here. The Plano Balloon Festival also takes place here once a year. It’s the one weekend out of the year where skydivers, hot air balloons and music fill the air over the city.

The next city over is Allen, Texas. The Allen Event Center hosts the 2013 CHL Presidents’ Cup Champions, the Allen Americans hockey team. Aside from hockey games, the Allen Event Center hosts concerts, family events such as Disney on Ice, trade shows and more. One of two Hydrous Wake Park locations is situated in Allen where water skiers and wake boarders use an overhead cable system rather than being pulled by a boat. Last but not least, Allen’s most recent claim to fame is the one-of-a-kind, $60,000 Allen Eagle Stadium where Allen High School football home games are held.

As you drive along 121, between the Dallas North Tollway and 75, you will have passed three of our Grand Homes communities: Northglen, Landings of Kittyhawk and Cumberland Crossing.

Northglen, one of our newest communities, is located closest to Frisco but is technically in Plano. Construction has begun on the model home and the first homes will be ready for move in by the start of 2014. Northglen is also located within the highly sought-after Frisco ISD attendance zone.

Our model home at the Landings of Kittyhawk in Allen has recently been decorated and furnished. This community comes complete with an amenity center, neighborhood pool and playground. Construction on the first few homes at this community will be complete by the end of the year.

Between the two is Cumberland Crossing. This neighborhood also comes with an amenity center, pool and a trail system that winds through the community and will eventually connect with the City of Allen Park & Trail system.

Whether you’re relocating within DFW or from out-of-state remember there is tons to do for all ages when you take a short drive north of Downtown Dallas. Click here to find more information on Northglen, Landings of Kittyhawk, Cumberland Crossing and all Grand Homes communities.

More moving trucks really are heading to Dallas! Movers.com conducted a study concluding Dallas is the top inbound-to-outbound metroplex for relocation followed by Houston.

“Our major cities statistics show Dallas as the number one highest inbound-to-outbound metropolis in the U.S., followed by Houston, which fits with Texas’s ranking as the current state with the most population growth. Phoenix takes a close third.”

Bottom line: The movers.com study echoes what the Census Bureau told us last week, Dallas is booming! Visit Dallas Dirt for full article and press release.

Census, Dallas, Dallas Real Estate, Real Estate

The booming Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area added more residents during the past decade than any other city in the United States.

According to the latest Census Bureau figures, the population of the sprawling Texas metro area grew by about 1.3 million people, or 25%, between April 1, 2000, and July 1, 2009.

The population is now estimated at 6.5 million residents, but an exact count won’t be available until the 2010 census is complete.

The Palm Coast metro area in Florida had the highest percentage increase in growth. Its population exploded by 84% over the nine-years-plus covered by the Census Bureau report. But even after the jump there were only about 92,000 people living in the area.

Dallas’s attractions include a very favorable business climate, according to Mayor Tom Leppert. There’s no corporate income tax, building costs are relatively reasonable and regulations are minimal.

“It’s a great place to do business,” he said, “especially attractive for companies from high-tax states.”

Helping to drive growth is the area’s main airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International, the third busiest in the nation. Its location is far enough south to ensure good weather yet central enough to make it easy to fly to the Northeast, the Midwest and the Pacific Coast. It is also well positioned for air traffic with Latin American markets.

“Dallas has no port,” said Leppert. “The airport became a 21st century port.”

What it has lacked in the past — a vibrant downtown — is starting to develop. Recent additions include a huge new arts center, urban park, light rail system and new housing. These have bolstered the city’s density and made downtown more interesting and fun.

Fastest growing counties in the United States
That said, the metro area’s suburbs are booming as well, according to Leppert. Indeed Rockwall County, northeast of Dallas, is one of the 10 fastest growing counties in the nation.
