We are proud to announce that we have received the ENERGY STAR Certified Homes Market Leader Award for 2015! This award is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for our commitment to building quality energy efficient homes. Last year Grand Homes built 328 100% Energy Star Certified homes, which is equivalent to:
- Growing 14,104 tree seedlings for 10 years
- Avoiding the consumption of 1,291 barrels of oil
- Removing 117 passenger vehicles from the road!
Every Grand Home typically produces 15-20% savings over other new homes and as much as 40% energy savings over the average pre-owned home.
Here’s a helpful tip for extra Springtime savings:
- Change the direction of your ceiling fans. This will force cool air down and warm air up, bringing that nice cool breeze down into your rooms where it belongs.

Grand Homes has been recognized as a 2014 ENERGY STAR Certified Homes Market Leader for our commitment to ensure that our homes are energy efficient.
To receive this award, our homes must meet strict guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that require an integrated approach to design combined with tried-and-true best building practices. Upon completion, each home must undergo third-party inspection of energy performance to guarantee that it is at least 30% more efficient than typical new homes built today.
We have taken the next step in building the best home for our customers by using only the best materials for our homes including radiant barrier roof decking, 2 x 6 wall construction rather than 2 x 4, 16 SEER HVAC systems, vinyl Low E windows, R-38 Ceiling insulation and more! All of this so our customers can experience lower utility bills, higher resale value and a greater comfort level knowing their home is protecting the environment.
In the past year, we have contributed to 509 ENERGY STAR certified homes being added to the market. This is equivalent to eliminating the emissions from 181 vehicles, saving 923,835 lbs of coal and planting 713 acres of trees.

Happy Earth Day! As an Energy Star partner since 2006, Grand Homes has dedicated itself over the recent years to create homes that not only improve the lives of our customers, but our planet. Because of our efforts in protecting the environment and promoting energy efficient construction, the EPA recognized Grand Homes in 2009 and 2011 with the Energy Star Leadership in Housing Award. We have worked hard to constantly be improving our materials, processes and standards to build something that is energy efficient and safe.
So what does it mean to be an Energy Star partner, or to build an energy efficient home? To earn the ENERGY STAR, a home must meet strict guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC), and include additional energy-saving features that typically make them 20–30% more efficient than standard homes. These days, most of us are trying to be more eco-concious. Whether it’s recycling paper or conserving water we have tried to find small ways to decrease our impact on the planet, and we want our houses to do the same.
If you have been shopping for green homes in Dallas you have probably noticed a dramatic increase in energy-efficient options over the last couple years. Customers buying new homes in Dallas, and across the country, are becoming more environmentally savvy, and builders are making an effort to keep up with the times, creating both traditional and custom homes Dallas residents can be confident are energy-efficient and environmentally sound. So what features should you be looking for when shopping for your next energy-efficient home?
- Look for Energy Star Compliance. Appliances, light fixtures and other electronic devices should be Energy Star compliant, and so should the building materials.
- HVAC Systems. A non-ozone depleting HVAC system is good for the environment, your family, and your budget. A good HVAC system will be 16 SEER or higher.
- Superior Insulation. Green homes must be insulated in a way that keeps them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. R-22 wall insulation(R-19 Batts with R-3 Sheathing) does just that, and R-38 blown fiberglass insulation fills in the gaps and insulates the attic.
- Radiant Barrier Roof Decking . A radiant barrier roof can deflect up to ninety-seven percent of the sun’s rays, lowering attic temperatures by about thirty degrees.
- Energy-Efficient Windows. Super efficient, low-E, double paned, insulated vinyl windows are a must for green homes, because they use improved frames and protective coatings to reduce air infiltration and radiant heat flow. Windows should let in light, not heat.
- Tankless Water Heater. Tankless hot water heaters can save you up to forty percent on your energy costs, while providing you with exactly as much hot water as you need, reducing wasted energy used when heating large amounts of water.
- Digital Programmable Thermostats. Save money with the touch of a button by setting your thermostat based on your heating and cooling needs. You can save over thirty percent on your utility bills.
